Outdoor living spaces have always been popular, but with today’s lifestyles of long work hours, lengthy commutes and hectic family schedules, the need for a backyard retreat is greater than ever. Throw in the rising popularity of staycations, and the benefits of a backyard paradise become unmistakable.

We recently designed an outdoor living space for clients that love to entertain friends and family, and wanted their patio to serve as an extension of their home. Festive furnishings in a color palette that echoed the home’s adjoining interior rooms, ample shade and tables with multipurpose features did the trick!
We couldn’t be happier with the end result and would love to hear what you think of it, too. Here are all the details!

We designed and installed custom drapery and shades in hues of orange and teal in the home’s breakfast nook with views of the patio, and continued the color scheme outside for a cohesive look. [Read more…]

From runways to interiors, geometric shapes and patterns are everywhere! What’s so great about them? Geometric designs are energizing, playful and elegant – the perfect combination to invigorate interior spaces. The go-to shapes include hexagons, diamonds, stripes and the Greek key pattern, but the options are almost endless.  And as an added bonus, geometric patterns excel at hiding wear and tear on upholstery and rugs.
Looking to add a pop of geometric design to your space? Check out these fabulous finds!

Summer may still be in full force, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start dreaming of fall days and the beautiful, rich hues that come with them.
I love fall hues. Fall colors typically possess a depth and sophistication absent from summer’s pastels and brighter shades, and this year should be no different!
Pantone, the global authority on color, has forecasted a palette of 10 luscious colors from New York Fashion Week that will be fall’s hottest hues. According to Pantone, “the colors come together to create moods that range from sophisticated and structured to lively and vivid” and reflect the many moods of fall.

And you won’t just be seeing these colors on the runways and in clothing aisles. Popular fashion colors almost always crossover into the world of interior design. The colors are all beautiful, but here’s my forecast of the three you’ll be seeing the most in interior design. [Read more…]

Have you discovered Chip It! yet? It’s one of my favorite new design applications. The tool allows you to take any picture and turn it into a collection of up to 10 Sherwin-Williams paint colors through a matching process with the company’s extensive database. Not only is it very helpful, it’s also a lot of fun!
I’ve been a bit of a mad scientist lately, experimenting with images and coming up with some unique and exciting color palettes. And recently I decided to take a cue from Mother Nature and use the app to create color palettes based on some of our nation’s most beautiful vacation spots.
The results are spectacular! Only now, I don’t know which I’m more inspired to do – decorate or take a trip. I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, take a look and let me know which palette inspires you! You can also try the tool out yourself at letschipit.com.

One of my favorite things about being an interior designer is discovering new products and using them in unexpected ways. I always strive to create one-of-kind rooms, using products that are current without being trendy. And that’s why I love Ann Sacks! Her tile and stone products are unique and timeless.
Here’s a sneak peak at a client’s kitchen where we used one of her new products as the focal point of the room’s backsplash.

The lantern-pattern ceramic art tile is pillow-cut, which creates softly tapered edges to form a shape like a fluffy pillow. The look is modern, yet traditional. We also chose to use only one of the available colorways in the design to create a clean and sophisticated look, although the tiles may appear to be different colors due to lighting. Our clients love their new kitchen! [Read more…]

It was reveal day recently! After months of planning and hard work, members of the Dallas-Fort Worth Interior Design Society were able to present the apartment we completely furnished and designed for one very deserving family through the Dwell with Dignity organization. We were also able to personally meet the family of five and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house.
If you’re not familiar with Dwell with Dignity, it’s a non-profit group of interior designers and volunteers that create beautiful interiors for families struggling with homelessness and poverty. Their mission is to help families escape difficult circumstances by transforming their environments and hopefully, their outlook on life.
imagesCAGPF0M8The Dallas-based foundation was created by Lisa Robison in 2009, and has since helped scores of families and spurred the creation of similar organizations throughout the country. I love the work they do and always jump at the chance to be involved with any of their projects.
For the past two years, the Interior Design Society (IDS) has been charged with the complete design and installation of an apartment for a family through the Dwell with Dignity program. And as a member and current President of IDS, I’ve been blessed to be involved.
At the request of Dwell with Dignity, all of the artwork was handmade by IDS members and we were able to completely furnish the apartment. We were also able to secure new carpet and counter tops thanks to generosity of our vendors and trade partners. The apartment was truly transformed. Take a look!

It was my lucky day recently! While shopping for a client at Renaissance Tile & Bath in the Dallas Design District, I happened to cross paths with Jamie Beckwith, a leading trendsetter in wood tile design.
