Fall 2013 Color Forecast
Summer may still be in full force, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start dreaming of fall days and the beautiful, rich hues that come with them.
I love fall hues. Fall colors typically possess a depth and sophistication absent from summer’s pastels and brighter shades, and this year should be no different!
Pantone, the global authority on color, has forecasted a palette of 10 luscious colors from New York Fashion Week that will be fall’s hottest hues. According to Pantone, “the colors come together to create moods that range from sophisticated and structured to lively and vivid” and reflect the many moods of fall.
And you won’t just be seeing these colors on the runways and in clothing aisles. Popular fashion colors almost always crossover into the world of interior design. The colors are all beautiful, but here’s my forecast of the three you’ll be seeing the most in interior design.
Linden Green. Linden Green is a subdued, yellow-toned green that I envision replacing Emerald, Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year, for those that prefer a more serene color palette. The color is light, bright and still possesses the invigorating effect of all greens, but it is more unique and unexpected than Emerald. I see it as Chartreuse’s moody cousin, with tremendous color combination options.
Mykonos Blue. I’ll get straight to the point – there are few people that don’t love blue, and blue lovers are always on the lookout for a new shade to enliven their spaces. Shades of teal and aqua are very popular in interior design, and Indigo has been called “the blue of this decade” by Traditional Home Magazine.
Pantone describes Mykonos Blue as “a bold, meditative blue.” I consider it a classic shade with just enough depth and brightness to win over both Teal and Indigo fans.
Turbulence. Shades of gray have been become the new neutral, replacing browns, taupes and beiges, and Turbulence offers something new in the field of grays. The color is described as “a dark, mercurial gray” and will work equally well in modern and traditional design schemes. I view the color as stately and strong, with a masculine edge. It will mix beautifully with softer, more feminine colors.
Which color do you hope to see transition from the runway to the home?
