BGI Plano Remodel with Statement Entry Chandelier

Author Bio: Lisa Wetherell runs the blog Lighting House – where she writes about her knowledge gained from 10 years of industry experience in the lighting and interior design field. To learn more about how lighting can improve your space, you can follow her blog.

Changing the lighting in your home might be just what you need to transform the entire look of the place. Unlike other interior design fixes, lighting is an easy change, which makes it one of the simplest ways to freshen up your home. This is especially important if your home happens to be a rental!

Below, are several lighting trends that would be great to incorporate into your interior design plans for 2019.

Natural Inspiration

BGI Legacy West Boutique Eyewear Store

From eco-friendly design to handcrafted fixtures, 2019 is the time to embrace your connection to nature by choosing energy-saving bulbs and chandeliers made from eco-friendly materials! You can also go all-natural by picking up simplistic, soft designs made from wood, bamboo, and woven textures.

2019 design trends are all about individuality and comfort. So naturally, handcrafted items are a must for every homeowner that wants to keep up with the trends and add an authentic, homey feel to his or her home.

Industrial Look

BGI Dallas Kitchen Remodel

Natural materials and hand crafted pieces will give a soft, boho look, but what if that style is not your cup of tea?

Well, then you can search for your preferred look in the complete opposite way and choose industrial style décor – which, of course, includes lighting as well.

In 2019, urban industrial style takes over the scene, stepping up the game from the traditional industrial look.

Unlike the monochromatic palette, which is one of the main characteristics of traditional warehouse-like design, this year you are urged to use more varied tones. Top that with raw materials and metal fixtures, and you will create an unfinished look with an urban appeal with ease.

You can’t go wrong with metal pendant lighting or warehouse-style fixtures when decorating your room with the ever popular industrial style. Now a days the choice of industrial style light fixtures is vast. So look for fun, unexpected designs, that will offer a lot of freedom when approaching home renovations, and they will easily serve as a centerpiece in your home.

Retro Style Bulbs

If you are opting for a warm, nostalgic feel, we have good news for you: vintage Edison-style bulbs are trending!

You can either choose a traditional incandescent bulb or combine the rounded cone shape with modern LED lighting. We prefer the LED version for many reasons. First of all, they do not emit heat like the traditional incandescents and are much safer version. Also, as many know, they last much much longer!

Edison bulbs are also a great added detail to industrial design!

Floor Lamps

BGI North Dallas Home Remodel

Floor lamps are no longer just a piece that you put in the corner of your reading nook to help you see better when diving into your favorite book.

Now, floor lamps are less about task lighting and more about adding a point of interest in your home. As new design tends to use every area of the home, floor lamps can be a great way to make an uninteresting corner full of life. The styles today are endless. The ever popular arched retro lamp is one of our favorites!

Statement Pieces

As previously mentioned, showing a sense of authenticity is a major part of most 2019 trends. Statement light fixtures, be it in the form of hanging chandeliers with unique forms, or a floor lamp with a sculptured quality, are trending this year.

Take a step further and pick an oversized piece that will draw attention to itself whenever someone walks into the room. Sometimes you need to go larger in scale for a dramatic focal point.

BGI North Dallas Home Remodel

Gold and Classic

If classic design is more your speed, you will love the comeback of classic shapes and golden finishes as décor, including light fixtures.

Regardless of whether you are a home owner with a vintage style home, or you have designed your interior using clean lines and modern shapes, you can use this trend to freshen up your space.

If gold and brass are not a color you enjoy or think it fits your interior, just go for any type of metallic finish. That should give a similar, rich effect. Don’t be afraid to mix metals too! No longer are we limited to using only one finish in a space. On the flip side of gold, matte black finishes are just about everywhere you look too!

Artsy Lights

BGI Preston Hollow New Construction

When it comes to present day design, lighting fixtures serve a double purpose.

Not only are lights needed and used to provide the much-needed illumination of the space, but they are also serving a decorative purpose.

In fact, homeowners and designers have started to perceive lighting fixtures as forms of art – and use them as such.

That explains the variations and innovations in size, form, and style that have steadily been increasing in recent years.

Indirect Ambient Lights

BGI Preston Hollow New Construction

Lights do not always have to be seen in order for them to create a powerful impact on the home. In fact, hidden fixtures that cast an indirect, dimmed light to various parts of the space are a great way to create a soothing atmosphere.

Go for behind the mirror lights, hidden wall lights, or under the counter lights to add calm and warmth to your hallway, living room, kitchen, and even your bathroom. An added bonus of a toe kick light for your cabinets is that it serves as a night light!

Flexible Fixtures

BGI Celina New Construction

Finally, LED lights have broadened the list of possibilities when it comes to ways of lighting the space to create not only powerful aesthetics but also make sure that the lights provide maximum functionality.

In 2019, bending lights around mirrors and artwork, or backlit kitchen counters will be seen on a more regular occurrence.

……….

What are your favorite lighting trends for this year? We would love to hear your thoughts and if you’ve noticed any different trends starting to show up!

Glam Guide: Design Trends for Small Bathrooms | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors
Your bathroom may be small, but that certainly doesn’t mean it can’t be sophisticated and glamorous. On the contrary, small bathrooms are much easier to design and you have more time to consider various beautiful design trends that can turn an average-looking bathroom into a royal one. Here is a list of some of our best ideas for you to take a look at which will certainly spark your imagination. Good luck with your new project!

Install the right lighting

Glam Guide: Design Trends for Small Bathrooms | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors
First things first, remember that lights can have a huge impact on our home’s interior design and can either further highlight its beauty or absolutely ruin it. Furthermore, dim places can negatively influence our mind as well as make us feel tired and depressed. With this in mind, it’s essential that you install enough light fixtures and replace the outdated ones. After all, bright rooms appear much larger than poorly-lit ones. Furthermore, don’t forget to install dimmer switches since these will help you adjust the brightness according to your mood and occasion. Owing to them, you’ll be able to enjoy romantic baths with your partner or create a serene atmosphere when you simply want to lie down in your bathtub and relax.

Go green

Glam Guide: Design Trends for Small Bathrooms | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors
Greenery is always the best decoration, and it can be incorporated into every single room in your house including your chic bathroom. The natural feel that they create will definitely contribute to the soothing atmosphere that you are trying to achieve. All you need to do is visit the nearest flower store and choose your favorite types. However, in order to avoid occupying the floor space, think about hanging one or two interestingly-patterned pots on the wall next to your vintage vanity. This way, you’ll make good use of vertical space and avoid overcrowding your small bathroom.

Opt for narrow-fit furniture

Glam Guide: Design Trends for Small Bathrooms | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors
Modern furniture is the essence of every bathroom. However, you should always keep the size of your bathroom in mind when shopping for furnishings because it all needs to fit properly. For example, wall-hung units are a great solution since they create a feeling of openness and don’t occupy too much floor space. Furthermore, instead of overcrowding your bathroom with too many furniture pieces, you should select only those that you really need. For example, you can invest in a modern minimalist bathtub and turn it into the focal point of the room. Additionally, a nice rustic vanity will go well with it and add that final touch to the place. After all, you’re the one in charge, so set your priorities straight and get down to work.

Bold accents

Glam Guide: Design Trends for Small Bathrooms | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors
Finally, smaller spaces require the use of neutral wall paint and bright-toned tiles which can create an illusion of spaciousness. However, this doesn’t mean that your bathroom must look boring and lifeless. Instead, you should use these neutral shades only as a base and then enrich the entire design with bold accents. For instance, a red-colored basin will definitely give this part of the house a bit of character and break the monotony of monochromatic decoration. On top of that, contemporary works of art can be a great choice if you know how to appreciate all those fascinating color combinations and if you find them inspiring and soothing to your soul. Finally, you can even try to discover your artistic side and hang a few of your creations as well. This will add that personal touch because being unique is what matters the most.

“I never met a color I didn’t like.” — Dale Chihuly
Every year, major paint companies tell us their predictions for upcoming color trends. These are about more than a favored hue; they tell us about big design trends and the country’s “mood,” if you will. These predictions start conversations about how we live with color, something I love to hear.
For 2017, we had Poised Taupe, Violet Verbena, Greenery, and Byzantine Blue as some of the predicted colors of the year. Many of these had to do with a feel of coziness and nesting, and a connection to nature.
This year, the colors of the year for 2018 are far more dramatic and bold. Let’s take a look!

PPG: Black Flame

Colors of the Year for 2018 | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

Photo: PPG

Looking into their crystal ball, PPG names Black Flame the color of the year 2018. This is black with deep indigo undertones, meant to evoke privacy and classic modernism.
“Black Flame acts like a black curtain, allowing your other décor elements to take center stage,” said Dee Schlotter, PPG senior color marketing manager. “The blend of [black and indigo] makes it incredibly versatile – use it on a statement wall, with a matte finish on a ceiling, with high gloss on a naturally-lit staircase, on cabinets, interior and exterior doors, and in many more places. The versatile hue can also provide strength and a modern luxe vibe to spaces with a lot of whites, blush pinks and soft pastels.”
Black is a powerful color, as I noted in my post on the psychology of color. It can be gloomy in large doses, so be sure to balance it with other colors, like in the photo above.

Olympic: Black Magic

Colors of the Year for 2018 | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

Photo: Olympic

Olympic Paint’s prediction is Black Magic, a hue that evokes glamor, strength, and most importantly, privacy. In past years, consumers have gravitated toward open, airy spaces that are thought to leave room for exposure. Olympic paint experts say in the current day, “consumers often feel uneasy, restless or like their privacy is being invaded, so they crave deep, comforting colors that offer a welcomed escape from the chaos of daily life.”

Glidden: Deep Onyx

Colors of the Year for 2018 | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

Photo: Glidden

Glidden calls Deep Onyx, its color of the year for 2018, “the most forgotten neutral.” It encourages a “less is more” approach to décor color, according to PPG experts.
“Black can be overlooked as a neutral color, but it works well on an accent wall or as an alternative to white paint on doors, trim and cabinets,” said Misty Yeomans, PPG color marketing manager, Glidden paints. “The sense of ease and authenticity it brings to a home can’t be denied. Just like a little black dress, Deep Onyx is a classic, timeless staple.”

Behr: In the Moment

Colors of the Year for 2018 | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

Photo: Behr

Behr bucks the black trend with a prediction of In the Moment as its color of the year 2018. This is a cool spruce blue inspired by nature, a soothing, restorative coalescence of blue, gray, and green.
Here’s how they describe it: “This comfortable color evokes a sense of sanctuary and relaxation amid our busy, always-on lives. In name and color, this hue speaks to our desire to take a break, be present and recharge. It also crosses multiple design styles, ideal for working with traditional, modern, coastal and global décor.”

hello sourAV

North Texas offers one of the most vibrant design communities in the country. Not only do we have a high caliber of professionals working here, but we also have a community of people who appreciate and want beautiful residential interior design and commercial interior design surrounding them. That makes for a dynamic environment that produces some show-stopping interiors.
The Dallas-Ft. Worth area has its own personality, different from, say, L.A. or New York. We have our own way of doing things, and every season, I spot a new combination of DFW interior design trends happening right now. So what’s hot in North Texas interior design? Read on to find out!

Transitional design style

DFW Interior Design Trends | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

This transitional kitchen designed by Barbara Gilbert Interiors fits right into DFW design trends lately.

North Texas was pretty traditional in its style for a long time. But in recent years, I’ve noticed much more interest in adding modern elements to create a look that’s called transitional.
Transitional design is all about balance. It marries more traditional style with soft contemporary elements to create an elegant, sophisticated look that offers the best of both worlds. Transitional spaces feel timeless, serene, and chic. One of the biggest assets of a transitional home is that it doesn’t go out of style. Because it is about a marriage of two aesthetics, you can always update the individual elements to create a different look.
Some of the key parts of transitional style include warm, neutral color palettes with pops of color; clean lines; emphasis on natural light; and a “less-is-more” attitude toward accessories. There’s also that harmonious feel and “just enough” pattern and texture to create visual interest.
You can learn more about this style in a blog post I wrote, Balancing the Old and New with a Transitional Style.

White Shaker-style cabinets

DFW Interior Design Trends | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

A transitional kitchen designed by Barbara Gilbert Interiors with white Shaker-style cabinets.

White Shaker-style cabinets fit into the transitional look and they are a huge trend in Dallas interior design right now. Flat front cabinets can look too modern and traditional cabinets can look too ornamental. Shaker-style have just the right amount of embellishment. When paired with a brushed nickel pull or knob, the look is clean and tailored.
Another benefit of these cabinets is they make your countertops really pop, especially if those countertops are quartz (see my next trend below) or marble. White Shaker-style cabinets provide the perfect backdrop to show off not only your countertops, but also your backsplash and accessories in the kitchen or bathroom. They provide a stylishly neutral backdrop for other elements to shine.

Quartz countertops

DFW Interior Design Trends | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

A kitchen designed by Barbara Gilbert Interiors with Silestone quartz countertops.

After more than a decade where granite ruled in kitchen design trends, I’m seeing big interest in other countertop choices, particularly quartz. I personally love the look and have used them in quite a few recent home renovations. For example, in the photo above, we chose Silestone quartz countertops in platinum with steel sparkles, an elegant, sophisticated choice with clean lines and a refined look. (You can read about the whole kitchen remodel here.)
Quartz countertops are a fabricated composite, made from ground natural quartz, as well as glass or metallic flecks, and about 5 percent of a binding material called polymer resins. Together, they create a nonporous, extremely hard surface that is resistant to bacteria and stains, and never needs to be sealed. Cleanup is quick and easy and you’re not likely to damage your quartz countertops with a spilled glass of red wine or a hot pan.
Quartz offers a wide variety of color choices, from natural stone colors, to bold, saturated choices, like a navy blue. The look is uniform, unlike granite, which offers natural pattern variation. Because this is manufactured stone, you can order it in exactly the size you need and it will be manufactured to your specifications.

Midcentury modern-inspired chandeliers

DFW Interior Design Trends | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

A transitional living room designed by Barbara Gilbert Interiors with a midcentury-inspired chandelier.

The 1950s and 1960s are back in a big way in 2017. This means furniture with lines that echo that era, updated with a modern edge, like in the photo above. Retro chandeliers are also a big trend hitting its stride this year: think atomic era sparkles, clean lines, and an edgy look.
There are so many wonderful options available! The hardest part can be making up your mind. A few of my favorites include the Currey and Company Aerial chandelier, the Hudson Valley Lighting Bari chandelier, and the Fredrick Ramond Tulah chandelier. Fabulous!

Tile accent area above cooktop

DFW Interior Design Trends | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

In this Barbara Gilbert Interiors-designed kitchen, she chose a herringbone tile accent area in marble above the cooktop.

A backsplash offers a marvelous opportunity to bring some big style to a kitchen. A trend I’m seeing more of is the decorative tile accent area above the cooktop. This area works harmoniously with the rest of the backsplash, but provides a real wow factor. In my photo above, we selected BC Flooring Studio white Carrera Marble tile for the backsplash because it’s a classic, refined choice that will look stylish for years. For the tile accent area, we installed Glacier Blend Chicago herringbone pattern by BC Flooring Studio. The effect is sophisticated and quite distinctive.

hello sourAV

With so many spectacular tile options available today, there’s no reason to ever use boring beige squares.
I love using tile in unexpected and marvelous ways in the spaces I create, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms. I keep my eyes open for the interior design tile trends happening around the state and across the country. I’m seeing some colorful — and dimensional — things happening. So impressive! Let’s take a look at a few of the big trends.

Arabesque tile trends

Interior Design Tile Trends 2017 | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

Beveled arabesque tiles in glossy white by Mission Stone & Tile.

The arabesque is a style of artistic decoration consisting of rhythmic linear patterns of scrolling and interlacing lines. In tiles, arabesque commonly looks like lanterns. Individual tiles range in size from small to medium and are most often made of porcelain, ceramic, or marble. The range of colors is incredible, from solid to variegated hues in every shade of the rainbow.
I think the curves of arabesque tile offer a refined, graceful look for any space. It’s particularly dynamic when used in a kitchen backsplash.

Cement tile trends

Two months ago, I wrote about cement tile, which is one of the hottest trends in residential interior design. This large-format tile adds a graphic element and looks marvelous. It’s an old way of making tile, dating back to the 1850s, but it is reimagined today in so many colorful and beautiful ways.
I’m seeing patterns that are bold, especially in black and white or blue and white. Cement tile is a wonderfully inspiring and flexible design trend that works as well on a backsplash or fireplace as it does on a floor or in the bathroom. This is a durable, decorative, and sophisticated way to show off your design chops.

Dimensional tile trends

Dimensional tile, also called 3D tile, offers a sculptural quality, with a raised surface as the pattern. These tiles are one of the big interior design tile trends this year and are showing up in higher-end brands, as well as more mainstream ones.
I think dimensional tiles look particularly striking in a bathroom shower. They add a huge wow factor to a space most people expect to be pretty standard. For obvious reasons, you don’t want to use 3D tiles on a floor or countertop.

Dark grout trends

Interior Design Tile Trends 2017 | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

Photo: Home Depot Blog

One hundred years ago, dark grout was the norm, and it was often paired with white subway tile or black-and-white penny tile. But over the years, white or tan grout started taking the design world by storm and has been the standard for a long time.
Now days, I’m seeing a lot of tile installations with dark, or even colored, grout. It creates an appealing aesthetic and as a bonus, doesn’t show discoloration and dirt like lighter colored tile grout. I think when black grout is paired with a dark tile, the result is a striking contemporary look.

One big trend I’m seeing in kitchen design is navy blue cabinets. Some people choose to use this color for the whole kitchen, while others use it for lower cabinets or an island only. No matter how it shows up, the result is usually bold and eye-catching, especially when paired with a crisp white countertop.

Trend Alert: Navy Blue Cabinets | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

So how can you get this look and do it right? First, jump online and browse Pinterest or a site like Houzz.com to find photos that appeal to you. Look for the different ways people design using navy blue cabinets. Save what you love and refer to those images often. (If you haven’t considered it, now is the time to call in an interior designer — they’ve got the know-how and experience to make this project a breeze, with great results.)
Next, look at your overall kitchen size. Using a saturated color for all your cabinets might make it seem smaller unless you’ve got a lot of light or the layout is large and open. For that reason, I tend to think the darker color looks better when kept to lowers or an island. When paired with white or marble countertops, as well as white upper cabinets, it’s hard to go wrong.

Now, what about metals? What works with navy blue cabinets? Your options are actually pretty flexible here. You can use a brushed nickel, or veer toward more of a warm gold. You can even mix metals if you’re feeling brave — nothing wrong with silver and gold together. In fact, mixed metals is another design trend! You’ll be getting two by choosing that option.

Trend Alert: Navy Blue Cabinets | Interior Design Dallas | Barbara Gilbert Interiors

If you’re remodeling your kitchen, you might be wondering about whether you should DIY the navy blue cabinets, or call in a pro. The answer really depends on how much time and patience you have, as well as budget and an available work area. Painting cabinets yourself takes at least a whole weekend — you have to clean, sand, prime, sand, paint a first coat, sand, paint a second coat, sand, and paint a third coat. Then there’s the drying time: at least four hours between coats.
You’ll note I mentioned three layers of paint. When you’re dealing with a deep, saturated color like navy blue, you need all three to reach the desired depth of color (be sure to also use a tinted primer). Another reason for three is because kitchen cabinets take a real beating between cooking and foot traffic, so that third coat is extra insurance against dreaded chips in your beautiful handiwork.
If all that sounds like too much effort — and I can’t emphasize enough how painstaking the process can be — consider calling in the pros. They usually bring in a crew and spray on the paint, making short work of a big project.
No matter how you get your navy cabinets, if you plan and execute carefully, the end result will be a classic,
beautiful look you can enjoy for years to come.

If you’ve been paying attention to home design trends for the last year or so, I’ll bet velvet furniture has caught your eye. This distinctive fabric is showing up in bold ways on sofas and chairs of almost every style.
I’m seeing this home design trend mostly in contemporary and transitional furniture, but more traditional pieces are being adorned with this rich fabric, too. And it’s not just in houses — office interior design is catching onto this trend, too, which makes for some seriously comfy and chic work spaces.

The Cyan Design Prince Valiant contemporary chair in blue velvet.

Long associated with royalty and luxury, velvet is in fact a very old type of fabric. It was first introduced in the eighth century in the Middle East. Today, it can be made from synthetic or natural fibers and the short, dense pile of this woven, tufted fabric is what gives it the luxe and distinctive feel.
One beautiful example is the Cyan Design Prince Valiant chair, pictured above, in blue velvet. Its clean lines create an almost architectural look and this velvet chair would look marvelous in a contemporary or transitional design scheme.

Velvet can be made of synthetic or natural materials and comes in every color imaginable.

Another option for incorporating velvet into your home is ordering custom furniture and and choosing the exact fabric you want. That’s where a professional interior designer comes in! We can help our clients discern exactly what they like about the this home design trend and what kind of custom furniture would help them best realize their aesthetic.
I encourage clients to create online inspiration boards with photos of what they like – and don’t. From those boards, my team and I can learn a lot. When combined with our consultations and detailed questionnaires, we get a complete look at your interior design dreams.

Cement tile is one of the hottest trends in residential design. This large-format tile adds a graphic and often colorful design element and looks modern and marvelous.
But did you know cement tile in residential design actually goes back to the 1850s in Catalonia? This style made its public debut at the Paris International Exposition of 1867 by the Catalan company Garret & Rivet.

This is an old way of making tile, using mineral pigments, cement, a mold, and a hydraulic press. Its heyday in the US was during the Jazz Age, with cement tile showing up in residential design areas like kitchens and sun porches, particularly in warm climates.
Today, we’re seeing patterns and colors that are bold, and the material is still durable, decorative, and sophisticated. Encaustic cement tile is a wonderfully inspiring and flexible design trend that works as well as a backsplash or fireplace as it does on a floor or in the bathroom (“encaustic” refers to different colors of clay used in one tile). It’s a great way to show off your personality and style in any residential design!

Cement tiles can be pricey because they’re crafted by hand with mineral pigments, cement, a metal mold, and a hydraulic press. Designers create whatever pattern and style they want, which is created into a mold. Because they’re made one at a time, expect slight variation and imperfections — that’s part of their charm!
The pigments in encaustic cement tile is a blend of marble powder, fine Portland cement and sand, and powdered colored minerals or non-mineral pigments. Insider tip: Higher-quality manufacturers will use only mineral pigments and also have a mineral layer that’s 3 to 4 mm thick. This wears better over time and won’t fade with age, wear, and sunlight.

Finally, Style Spotter Ron Woodson and Jaime Rummerfield, Woodson & Rummerfield’s House of Design, predict organic and refined. “Natural forms, handcrafted from exquisite materials into artful furnishings, can make elegant, whimsical, or thoroughly brilliant statements that define style in unique and unexpected ways,” they said.
If you’re going to High Point, I hope you have a wonderful time and find what you’re looking for. As they say, if you can’t find it in High Point…it probably doesn’t exist!

hello sourAV

I’ve been paying close attention all year long to the trajectory of certain interior design trends, and I’m loving the direction I’m seeing. There is a lot of emphasis on the comfortable, cozy home, a place of refuge and psychological warmth. So I’m seeing a lot of elements trending to create that feel in the home. I’m also seeing references to the past in furniture, and some other exciting things. Read on to see my 2017 interior design trends predictions.

Upholstered headboardsinterior design trends 2017

The past few years, we’ve seen a lot of rustic chic headboards. They certainly add a lot of visual interest, but they’re not particularly comfortable (splinters, anyone?). Enter the upholstered headboard. I’m seeing some interesting textures in the fabrics, and comfort first, always. These can be tailored and sleek, like the one pictured above from a recent job of mine, or a bit more fully stuffed with diamond tufting.

Modern Furniture With Retro Inspirationinterior design trends 2017

The 1960s and 1970s are coming back in a big way in 2017. This means furniture with lines that echo that era, updated with a modern edge, like in the photo above. Retro chandeliers are also a big trend hitting its stride next year: think atomic era sparkles, clean lines, and an edgy look.

Natural Elements Used in Unexpected Waysinterior design trends 2017

Rustic is still a big buzzword in interior design, but expect to see a slight twist on it in 2017. People will be wanting natural elements in their interior design, but used in unexpected ways. One example is pictured above, from a bathroom I designed: an accent wall with wood squares extending all the way from the counter to the ceiling. I’m also predicting a more polished take on rustic, with less “rough hewn” and more  of a polished and smooth look.

Soft, Soothing Color Palettes interior design trends 2017

A few weeks ago, we looked at the color trend predictions for 2017. From Poised Taupe to Byzantine Blue, the predictions are for soft colors used in the home. I see a lot of grays still dominating design choices, and overall soothing colors. So for 2017, expect to see interior design trends toward pastels and neutrals, all used in a way to bring a sense of serenity to interior spaces.

Cozy Nooksinterior design trends 2017

My last prediction is for the emergence of cozy nooks into designs in a big way. These can be as simple as an upholstered ottoman tucked in a corner with a warm throw, pictured above, to an arrangement of cushy seats and sofas with lots of pillows and blankets. This interior design trend speaks to the desire for comfort and calm in the home.

Modern homes can still feel warm and connected — a Modern homes can still feel warm and connected — and one of our favorite ways to do that is by repeating a tone throughout the space. ✨ In this project, we carried shades of teal from room to room in different ways: cabinetry, tile, textiles, artwork, even accessories. Nothing feels overly “matchy,” but the subtle repetition keeps the open floor plan feeling intentional and cohesive from every angle. Think of it as giving your home a color story instead of just a color palette. 💙 #BGIDesign #InteriorDesign #ModernInteriors #OpenConceptLiving #ColorStory LuxuryInteriors TexasInteriors DesignDetails ModernHome InteriorStyling
