Inspiration is everywhere when you’ve got your eyes attuned to it. Every other week, I share a Color Crush color palette here on my Barbara Gilbert Interiors blog. These are based on images that catch my eye with their balance of colors, unusual pairings, or just plain good looks. This week, I’ve found a pretty picture of fresh plums in a basket on a wood table with a colorful cloth underneath. The purples and yellow-orange shades are obvious, but if you look closer, there are so many variations of each shade, and a lot of neutrals, too.
This Color Crush color palette would create a fresh, cheerful feel in any room. They all work beautifully together, don’t you think?

Every other week, I share a Color Crush color palette here on the Barbara Gilbert Interiors blog. It’s so fun! This week, I’ve chosen a gorgeous hawk as a jumping off point. At first glance, this bird of prey seems to have only a few colors. But look closer and you’ll see so many beautiful hues in her feathers and beak.
This Color Crush color palette would create an earthy, serene feel in any room — I’ve found that the colors from nature often do just that. I think the taupe-gray shades would be great neutrals, paired with the blue and green. The purple and orange could be perfect pops of color.

Every two weeks, I post one of my Color Crush color palettes here on the Barbara Gilbert Interiors blog. It’s such a fun project. This week, I’ve chosen the vibrant hues of a spice market as my inspiration. I love traveling the world, and I’ve been to spice markets in Morocco. The rich shades of the spices were so gorgeous and saturated. Combined with the energy of the market, the wonderful smells, all the interesting people…I love these memories!
This spice market color palette would create an earthy, relaxed feel in any room, since these are colors from nature. The lighter green shade would make a wonderful wall color for a space where relaxation was a goal — in this level of saturation, it would promote balance, calm and harmony. Accented by the darker mossy green, it would create a beautiful space. I also love the terra cotta and lighter peachy tone together, and the gray and two shades of brown.

I love creating color palettes for my bi-weekly Color Crush feature here on the Barbara Gilbert Interiors blog. This week, I’ve chosen one of my favorite subjects, a butterfly. I think they’re one of the Lord’s loveliest creatures, and I love their gorgeous hues, from the swallowtail to the monarch. I believe the butterfly pictured above is called the Tawny Mime, a native of India.
This color palette from the Tawny Mime is full of soft shades and a lush green. This would create a pretty bedroom, perhaps for a girl. But pink is not just for kids — I have been seeing more people using a soft pink as their neutral wall color instead of a gray or beige and it has a calming effect on people. With the soft pink and green as a backdrop, the more saturated colors would really pop as accents, and the deep brown would be a good shade for the wood in the room.

For this week’s Color Crush, a new bi-weekly feature on the Barbara Gilbert Interiors blog, I’ve found a fun photo of hanging, bright umbrellas. These inspire me with their varied hues and festive feel. Some of the colors are quite saturated, but there are lighter shades in this photo, too. I think the range of colors offers some great color palette options for the home. The blues would be marvelous in a bedroom, with accent colors coming from the rest of the photo.

July 4 is next Tuesday and to celebrate my love for our great country, this week’s Color Crush is inspired by an urban fireworks display. Fireworks are one of my favorite parts of July 4, and this photo captures the exploding beauty of an Independence Day celebration.

For this week’s Color Crush, a new bi-weekly feature on the Barbara Gilbert Interiors blog, I’ve chosen a photo of New York City as my inspiration. I’m from that part of the country and I love an urban color palette, especially at dusk. It’s vibrant and moody, something that would make a home look sophisticated and elegant.
The orange and yellow would be great pops of color for accent pieces. I could see those blues/violets in the bedrooms — very relaxing and serene. The grays would be a refined-looking choice for living and dining rooms, maybe even the kitchen in a lighter shade. What do you think? Where would you use these colors?
