This week, I’m thrilled to announce that Barbara Gilbert Interiors has been named a winner of the prestigious Top Choice Award for 2018 as favorite interior design company in Dallas. This award is based on reputation and the votes of North Texans and I want to thank you for voting for me!
My team and I have been blessed to win a number of awards and each one comes with its own happiness. Some of them are based on the opinion of my colleagues in the DFW interior design community. The Top Choice Award is special because it is based on the votes of actual people based on reputation and their experience with us. What an honor to win!

We’re thrilled to announce two big wins at the 2017 Design Ovation Awards. My team and I won first place in the “Master Bedroom — Contemporary” category and honorable mention in the “Bedroom — Youth” category.
It’s a special honor to be recognized by my peers in the North Texas design community. Dallas designers offers some impressive skills, and our area is one of the best in the country for interior design. So much creativity and talent! I feel blessed and grateful to receive these two awards, and honored to be considered along so many other accomplished professionals.

2017 Design Ovation Awards

The 2017 Design Ovation awards are presented by the Dallas chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). It honors the winners of a juried design competition encompassing a wide range of categories. These are the finest achievements in interior design, architecture, and special contributions to the Dallas design community for the year.
The winning contemporary master bedroom design is from a project we completed, a contemporary interior design for Frisco home. The homeowner wanted an elegant, serene space with lots of personality. Some of the design elements include a soft palette of grays, silvers, creams and lavenders; a graphic metallic wallpaper print by Seabrook; and a luxuriously tufted headboard and silvery ottomans from Vanguard Furniture. Our client was thrilled with the final result! Thank you also to fellow Dallas ASID member, Holger Obenaus Photography, for the stunning interior design photography!

The youth bedroom we submitted, which won honorable mention in the 2017 Design Ovation Awards, is a space we designed for a tween girl in Dallas. She is 11 years old and knows exactly what she likes. One essential part of the design process was creating a room that was not too babyish, and not too grown up, either. We wanted to create style that would endure well into her college years. I think we accomplished that with this project.

Again, we are overjoyed and so grateful for this big honor from ASID. We look forward to the Design Ovation Awards every year, and this was the icing on the cake of a wonderful evening.

Barbara Gilbert Interiors has been a part of the Houzz design community since the website launched in 2012, winning “Best of Houzz” awards for design and customer service every year since then. We just received the wonderful news that we’ve been awarded both honors again for 2017!

The prestigious award highlights the top-rated home improvement professionals and the most popular home designs. Barbara Gilbert Interiors won “Best Of Design” and “Best of Customer Service” awards for 2017. The design award means our work was among of the most popular with the 40 million monthly unique users of Houzz last year. Only a small percentage of the one million active homebuilding, remodeling, and design industry professionals receive these honors.
Customer service honors are based on several factors, including the number and quality of client reviews a professional received the previous year.

Houzz is such an important tool for me as a Dallas interior designer. When I first meet clients, I ask them to create Houzz ideabooks with photos they like from the site. From these ideabooks, we get inspiration for everything from color palette and design style, to specific details, like furniture pieces, accessories, and art. There’s nothing like it to help me get a glimpse inside the minds of my clients.
Houzz also gives me an effective platform for showcasing a portfolio of my own work and creating my own ideabooks. This leads to interaction with a large and global community of users, which I appreciate so very much.
So you can imagine what an honor this is for me to receive these awards for the sixth consecutive year. All of us at Barbara Gilbert Interiors are grateful for these Best of Houzz 2017 awards, as well as the active Houzz community and our wonderful roster of clients, whose appreciation of our work makes them possible.

Last week, I was thrilled to be part of the Houzz fifth anniversary celebration in Dallas. My team and I at Barbara Gilbert Interiors were some of the “early adopters” of this online platform in 2010, and Houzz has become an indispensable tool for my interior design firm.
The Houzz anniversary party was at PIRCH in NorthPark Center, by invitation only for their Dallas pro community: the architects, designers, and home builders who do such wonderful work in North Texas.
For the first time, Houzz featured a panel discussion, and I was thrilled to be the interior designer on the panel. When Houzz asked if I would consider being a panelist, they were very complimentary about my interior design projects, and the amount of reviews I have on the site. When I told them why Houzz is such an integral part of my business, I think that’s what cinched the deal! Out of all the talented designers in Dallas to have been chosen was such an honor—I never expected it.

Their program for the evening featured an overview of their latest industry insights and trends research, networking, as well as the panel discussion with myself, Mary Kathryn Reese, and Barry Hensley.
The panel discussed how we use Houzz in our businesses, and I had nothing but raves! It’s an essential part of my work. Whenever we have a new client, we give them homework to do: create five to ten ideabooks on Houzz. If it’s a couple, they have to do them separately with no peeking!
We look that photos they’ve chosen and can understand what they like and don’t like from them. I’ve been doing this for years and it’s such an integral part of my business—it makes it so much easier to combine a couple’s tastes that way and set the design style and color palettes.
There are over 66,400 Dallas home improvement pros active on Houzz, the site has over 35 million unique users a month, and there are now Houzz sites for 10 countries plus North America. This is such an important resource for all of us!

Liza Hausman, the Houzz VP of Industry Marketing, shared some fascinating insights into their market data. I really enjoyed learning things like how many people will be remodeling this year and seeking out interior designers, builders, or architects.
I’m so grateful to have been part of the Houzz anniversary Dallas event, and honored to have been asked to be a panelist. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next for this design platform.

Barbara Gilbert Interiors won “Best Of Design” and “Best of Customer Service” awards. The design award means our work was among of the most popular with the 35 million monthly unique users of Houzz last year. Only 3 percent of the 35 million active home building, remodeling, and design industry professionals receive these honors.
Customer service honors are based on several factors, including the number and quality of client reviews we received last year, as well as our interaction with the public on the site.
The third award we received was for a home theater we designed in Dallas, which is pictured above. All of the winners are featured in this ideabook. This award was chosen by Houzz editors based on the number of photos saved to ideabooks. We created a bright, inviting, and cozy space, with an unusual palette for a home theater. Our goal was to design a glamorous and inviting retreat in hues of cream, silver, and gold accents, with super comfortable seating and custom artwork.

Houzz is an indispensable tool for me as an interior designer. I ask clients to create Houzz ideabooks of their likes and dream rooms as we begin to work together. From these photos, we glean inspiration for everything from color palette and overall style, to specific details, like tiles, light fixtures, and furniture pieces.
Houzz also gives me an effective platform for showcasing a portfolio of my own work and creating my own ideabooks. This leads to interaction with a huge community of users from around the world, which I enjoy so much.

So you can imagine what an honor this is for me to receive these awards. It’s actually the fifth consecutive year Barbara Gilbert Interiors has been recognized by Houzz, since we created a presence on the site in 2012.

From contemporary to traditional design, Legacy of Design Awards were given from a variety categories and the projects were simply stunning. We were inspired by all the designs, and extremely honored to be recognized. In fact, the only thing more exciting than the celebration was calling our clients to tell them they had award-winning homes!

The Interior Design Society (IDS) recently celebrated their fifth annual Designer of the Year Award winners, and awarded Barbara Gilbert Interiors (BGI) first place honors in both the Kitchens and Sustainable Design categories.
BGI received both awards for the Village Park Eco Home project – a contemporary hill country style home built to answer the question, “What’s next in high-performance home construction?” The net zero energy ready home was built with sustainable and recycled materials resulting in high style with minimal impact to the environment.

1st Place – Kitchens $50,000 & Above

The 3,752 square foot home features advanced framing and insulation techniques, LED lighting, a rainwater collection system, custom formaldahyde-free cabinets, “standing dead” Red Oak floors, numerous sustainable and recycled materials such as glass, bamboo and cork, and over 23 paint colors.
Award winners were selected by a panel of notable judges that included Deb Barrett, Mitzi Beach, Leslie Carothers, Patti Carpenter, Tobi Fairley, Susan Inglis, Joe Ruggiero, Barbara Viteri, Jackie Von Tobel, and Amy Wax.

1st Place – Sustainable Design

“IDS is proud to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Designer of the Year Awards, which received a record number of entries this year,” said Snoa Garrigan, IDS Executive Director. IDS is one of the country’s largest design organizations in the residential interior design industry.

We had an amazing night recently at the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) 2014 Legacy of DesignAwards Celebration. Over 200 designers and industry professionals throughout the Texas Chapter attended the event and both the company and projects were inspiring!
From contemporary to traditional design, the projects were stunning and Legacy of Design Awards were given from a variety categories. We were thrilled to receive four of the prestigious awards! Not only were we honored to be recognized, but we loved calling our clients to tell them they had award-winning homes!
One of the designs also received a 2014 ARC Award from the Dallas Builders Association at a separate event three nights later. Sterling Brook Custom Homes received the ARC Award for Best Kitchen under $1 million for our kitchen design.
