Top Interior Design Trends for 2026 – PART 1

Building on the design movements of 2025, certain trends are evolving while others remain. With that being said, here are interior design trends we expect to define 2026.

Warmer lighting

Homes are becoming warmer, softer, and more atmospheric, especially with lighting choices.

  • Warm & comfortable versus cold & stark
  • Soft ambient lighting takes precedence over bright, overhead illumination.
  • Shaded table lamps, floor lamps, sconces, and subtle uplighting are layered to create mood and more interest.

Natural Materials & Textures

Natural materials like wood, Capiz shell, linen, and woven textures continue to be a defining trend, but in 2026 there is a focus on the organic and tactile finish. Instead of polished or overly refined finishes, designers are leaning into more organic, tactile expressions. Embracing visible grain, irregular textures, and subtle imperfections that make spaces feel layered, lived-in, and authentic.

Trim & Architectural Details

The architecture of a space is the main starting point of a design, allowing you to do as little or as much as you would like. To truly maximize a design, every area of a room should be intentional.

  • Can add Character to overlooked areas
  • Adds depth, detail, and visual interest without overwhelming the space
  • Creates a simple, but timeless feel to the room
  • Architectural details, and accent trim prove that small additions can still make a significant impact

Color Drenching

By saturating a space in a single hue, you can craft a room that feels immersive, cohesive, and emotionally grounded. You can turn any room into a sophisticated, tonal, and deeply personal space.

  • Enhances mood by allowing color to set the emotional tone of a room
  • Highlights architectural details by letting shadows and texture do the work
  • Feels modern yet timeless when executed with soft, muted, or nature-inspired hues
  • Creates a seamless, enveloping look that makes spaces feel thoughtfully curated

Using the “Fifth Wall”

Designers are giving renewed attention to the fifth wall—the ceiling. Transforming it from an afterthought into a main focal point. As interiors evolve more, ceilings are being used to add depth, warmth, and personality. Whether subtle or bold, treating the ceiling as part of the overall design creates more immersive, thoughtfully finished spaces.

  • Creates a big impact when utilized
  • Helps create zones in an open concept layout
  • Adds visual interest and dimension without taking up floor space
  • Enhances mood and ambiance, especially when paired with color drenching
  • Can be used to visually enlarge the space, or to create a more cozy atmosphere
